Smoke means your either getting to much fuel or not enough air. So with that being said I would start easy and see if you have a boost leak. Be sure you hot a clean air filter, and fuel filter. After that if you don't find anything I would move to the injection area. Maybe have you injectors checked.

Aug 2, 2020 · 2016 LML intermittent power loss and recovery. Just did a 3K trip on my 2016 over 3 days. Once each day for about 5 minutes while running at interstate speeds I had a power loss with excessive black smoke. Each time it lasted about 5 minutes and then was back to full power with no indications ever of any problems. Felt like either the transmission slipping or a fuel injector problem but it went away. Then today, while doing in town driving, it happened again and continued happening. The DIC displayed “Service Emission System”, “Reduce Acceleration”, “Service ESC” and “Service Traction Control”. The check engine light also came on.
