So I've got a weird one. I've got a 1999 Kawasaki Lakota Sport that I just got as a project. It's got compression and I've got a new carb but no spark. The coil is good, resistance check out according to the Clymer manual. I put in a new stator and pickup coil hoping that would do it but no luck. Kawasaki lakota 300 backfires & coughs above idle running rich. I'm a newbie here. I have a 2001 Lakota sport that backfires and coughs above idle. I have adjusted the valves, cleaned the carberator, checked the diaphram in the carberator, made sure the choke is closing. It idles fine but as soon as you give it gas, it pukes black smoke.
