The main benefit of VTSAX/VTIAX as I see it is that you can control the weight of US vs non-US. However, I'm not one to bet on a specific index, a specific geo or part of the world and love diversification + simplicity and like the idea of a cap weighted global fund without having to think about rebalancing and follow market caps.
