TJ diff fluid. I am wanting to change the fluid in the front and rear diffs and I am not sure of the capacity or which axle I have. The front is stamped with DANA 40869-136-0 and the rear is DANA 43225-115-0. I am thinking the front is a Dana 35 and the rear is a Dana 44 but I might be wrong. Yea personally I would use 80w-90 or 75w-90 unless you just really bang on it hard. The days of 20w-50 for engines and 75w-140 for gears are long gone. Oils are so superior nowadays don't be afraid to use lighter grades if thats whats called for. It is however a waste of money to use the synthetic fluid in the differentials. I also have a D44 LSD rear. I paid equivalent to less than $25 for enough 85W140 fluid for both differentials. Just to give you an idea the MOPAR 80W-90 was around $180 for the fluid for both here in SA. Share.

This is also the capacity posted in the Geno's Garage tech section.
