The camera should show on thw radio screen if the head unit is on/off or in any mode (nav/am/fm/sat) it has over ride of rhe display. 1 yes the camera could have gone bad. Most likely tho its something else. 2 the camera connects to the rear of the head unit. This connection could have came loose.

Finally got the backup camera to work with the aftermarket unit. The Hyundai backup camera is indeed 6v to switch it on. It drops the 12v power down to 6v. You still need to splice the camera input and camera ground into an RCA cable. You can use the P selector for both the trigger and power.Just switch the ignition on, select reverse gear, then use the voltage scale on the meter to measure the voltage on each wire at the rear lamp harness connector.
