I have a Walther P1 in from SOG. I requested a shooter with the hex pin and got it. The bore is like new. I'm looking at the serial stampings. 023xxx with the same xxx on the slide and barrel. It depends on what type of PP your're looking at. Walther PP's made at Zella-Mehlis for example had internal slide serial numbers. My 1944 PP 32 has the serial number duplicated on the slide, my 1936 PP 22 and 1939 PPK 32 do not. You can get it online through Ucross Books of Los Alamos, new Mexico; it's under $20 and is a great addition to any gun library.P38 has got a German civilian proof, P1 got a German military proof (on the slide only), but in your case the proof got lost when the slide was changed.
